Last Sunday I sang some of my songs about Bitcoin and liberty at Heuereka, a conference initiated by my friend Christoph Heuermann, which takes place every year around his birthday in August.

Christoph helps people to shape their lives according to the ‘flag theory’. Rather than staying in the country where one was born, this theory encourages people to lead a diversified life. Christoph advises to hold multiple passports, live in different places, run a business in one country and invest one’s wealth in another – to name just a few ‘flags’.

He calls his project Staatenlos, which translates to ‘stateless’. However, this does not mean to give up one’s citizenship; instead, he recommends viewing states as service providers competing for you in an open market. The goal is to live a free life with as little restriction from the “authorities” as possible, while staying completely legal.

This was my second Heuereka and I really enjoyed it, although the weather in Klaipėda (Lithuania) was not the best. Our excursion to the Curonian Spit took place amid heavy rain, but we had fun anyway. I met up with a few old friends, made some new ones and had countless interesting conversations. Participants of Heuereka are quite special people. Many of them are nomads and all of them radical freedom lovers.

Caroline, the main organiser of the conference, suggested that I give my short gig after the lunch break. That was a good idea, as it made for a welcome change after so many interesting but rather demanding talks. The participants obviously enjoyed my performance. I am looking forward to the next Heuereka in Mendoza, Argentina.
